Sinem Çol

She completed her undergraduate studies in the Department of English Language and Literature at Karadeniz Technical University in 2004. After graduation, she lived in Morocco for a period, where she observed target language instruction and early childhood education practices with international students at the American School of Tangier.

In 2005, she began working as an instructor in the Department of Basic English at the School of Foreign Languages, Karadeniz Technical University. Between 2005 and 2007, together with her colleague Zeynep Yahyaoğlu, she led the “Theatre in the Target Language Project,” working with preparatory class students who experienced language anxiety and staging a new play each year for three consecutive years.

For her graduation project in the Creative Drama Leadership/Trainer program of the Contemporary Drama Association, she focused on “Using Creative Drama as a Method to Reduce Anxiety in English Writing.” She initiated drama activities with children in Trabzon and established the association’s children’s workshops there. She currently serves as the Representative of the Contemporary Drama Association in Trabzon.

She continues to work at the School of Foreign Languages at Karadeniz Technical University and also coordinates Kids Zone Language School, founded with the same colleague, which offers English language education to primary and secondary school students.

She has participated in numerous European Union, Erasmus, and TÜBİTAK projects, and serves as a trainer of trainers in drama education programs conducted under the Turkish Ministry of National Education. In collaboration with various state institutions, she has also worked extensively with disadvantaged groups—including children with behavioral issues, girls who have experienced abuse, women in shelters, and incarcerated women and children.

Through the annual children’s festivals she coordinates within the university, she has reached more than 21,200 children to date.

She has contributed chapters to several books, including From Theory to Practice: Drama in Preschool and Primary Education, Drama Everywhere, Drama in Alternative Spaces, Values Education through Drama in Primary Schools: Values in Children’s Books through Alternative Methods, and Drama Practices through Technology-Supported Art Education.

Having also completed CELTA training, Sinem Çol continues to deliver seminars and workshops on drama, social-emotional learning, and arts-based teaching methods.
