Gökhan Karaosmanoğlu – Workshop (En)

Instructor: Gökhan Karaosmanoğlu

Title of the Workshop: From Uncertainty to Collective Product through Process Drama: Building a Story Together

Duration: 6 Hours

Description: Uncertainty is perhaps the most distinctive feature of process drama workshops. Both the facilitator and the participants not only volunteer to take on specific roles, improvise, and generate solutions to social issues throughout the process, but also commit themselves to managing this uncertainty. This collectively evolving process takes shape in a way that is as close as possible to real-life experiences and deeply reflects the dynamics of the group.

The aim of this workshop is to collectively experience this very uncertainty and, through examples from social life, to open up concepts such as differences, prejudices, power relations, and social boundaries around the theme of discrimination for discussion. Allowing space for different perspectives during the workshop will create a suitable ground for addressing in depth the meaning that is constructed both individually and collectively.

Throughout the workshop, various improvisations will be carried out toward building a dramatic fiction step by step and collectively with the participants. In accordance with the nature of process drama, the emerging story will be accompanied by a simultaneous and collective dramaturgy.

At the same time, the workshop aims to discuss concepts such as dramatic structure, stage design, body language and expressive possibilities, the use of time and space, collective creation, social representation, and stage atmosphere in the process of transforming the developed dramatic fiction into a product and staging it. At the end of the process, it is intended to create a discussion platform together with the participants on how the resulting work could be staged.
