Workshop Title: Physical Comedy and Clown Workshop
Duration: 5 Hours
Description: In this workshop, we reconstruct our existential, social, or personal “foolishness” through the way we look at it, transforming it into performance. Everything we try to hide in our daily relations with fear, complexes, foolishness, and failure becomes an object of glorified display in the performance space.
As a contemporary form of performance, clowning offers an alternative relationship between the performer and the audience. In this relationship, the fears, complexes, walls, and habitual patterns of the classical performer–audience dynamic are dismantled, and a liberation emerges where all weaknesses and foolishness transform into the very fabric of performance itself. Clowning is, after all, a celebration of foolishness and failure.
During the workshop, based on the pedagogy of Jacques Lecoq, participants will explore the body on stage and investigate its possibilities as material for creating and building play. The sessions will cover questions such as: What are the elements of the clownesque? What are the possibilities of physical comedy? How can we, through Lecoq’s pedagogy, construct performance and play texts?
